When I was 16, I was at a crossroad of my life. I had to decide whether I would be streamed into the field of biology or engineering. That was where it all started. I made my decision based on my interest and how do I see myself few years back. I love to draw box and abstract images and solve maths problem. It was 5 years ago and now I’m pursuing my studies in United Kingdom and currently, I’m sponsored by Petronas*, an oil and gas company.
Apart from my deep interest in web and graphic designing, my favourite subjects in high school was Engineering Drawing. In this subject, you will see how lines can represent something that can make a difference towards people life. Those lines can be a house structure, engine/machine design, and plant design. It covers all aspects of our life and that is the beauty of it. What’s more, engineers can communicate among each other by using this design. Enabling you to produce the same size of bottle whether you order it from China or other producer countries. Engineering is all about standard.
How do I combine my interest in design and engineering? - Well, I’ve asked one of the employees of my sponsor about any designer role in the industry. And he said, “Yes, there is - design engineer”. One of the job is to design the whole plant, oil rig for example. From pipeline to ventilation, from combustion chamber to helicopter pad. I said to myself, one day I will become one of them (if God’s willing. Ameen).
My current progress - Nothing much really. I just want to graduate with 1st class honour from Cardiff University. Then, I shall return back and work for my sponsor for 10 years and serve my country (Malaysia). But all of this doesn’t stop me from designing website and graphic. I learn more and more each day since I came here. Thus, I hope I will gain success in this small world. Till then…
