Logo Design: SMSA Women

Last month, I was approached by SMSA Women , a subdomain of Sheffield Malaysian Student Association (Sheffield University). I was asked if I’d like to design a logo for their organization as well as promote ISAC Studio . Since I knew quite number of friends in that organization, I accepted the offer quite easily.

SMSA Women

Despite preparing myself for final exams, I could say that the design process was quite rapid. Research brief and data collection were done within a meeting due to time constrain from both parties. However, the aesthetic and client values should not be neglected as I promise to deliver the best possible solution for all my clients.

It took me few sketches to arrive at the final logo. First few were rejected due to informality. After some discussion and mutual agreement, both of us agreed to use the water lily plant as reference while the pink and purple colour is one the most favourite colours for girls.

Finally, I put up their organization tagline Bersatu Di Bawah Satu Simpulan Ukhwah (United under one ties) as well as the name of the organization just after the logo. For the exclusive personal touch, I added the dotted lines to stress the brand image which the organization would like to bring – togetherness.

What do you think of the logo? Comment »

    Thanks for your comment.

    1. The flower would tell that the organization are female org. Not to be feminine but there are things that women particularly good at it.

    2. Colour. They requested for purple and pink during the online meeting. To win all the request, I combine pink and purple. No idea where the blue colour comes from :P

    3. Unity is the main idea behind this logo. That’s the main reason why it is combined on the base. Simile for the sense that there were bond between each other. Different colours represent different ideas and perception or origin, but under this organization, they unite for one mission and vision.

    Thank for your comment :)

oh..tu warna purple ke? i thought it was blue..

anyway, i am happy with the logo. simple and sweet. u did not take long time to design it, do u? i am thinking to do some design some times..haha…last time, before the idea of being a doctor crossed in my mind, i did a lot of drawing. i just simply love drawing and painting. but, as i was getting busier and busier..the hobby was left just like that. hu~ i still remember, when i was kid, my mom used to encourage me participating in drawing competitions..got some trophies at home…anyway, tinggal kenangan je..

Yup imanmuslihah, it is blue ;)

But initially during the process I put up a purple colour to see what it produces. Well, when red + purple = magenta. For more info, here’s a link:

Thanks for your question. About the logo design process, it didn’t take me long time but to put it into graphical representation was quite hard. Especially when you need to put the soft touch of the petals.

Anyway, congratulation for winning the competitions. I never win any drawing competitions before. My drawing seems fine without colour. Thanks for nowadays technology, you can erase and edit what ever colour you want. :) Good luck with your studies as medical student.

I hope one day I’ll become a great designer. Simplicity is the key but if wrong key is used, so it will not unlock the ‘Wow’ factor. Thanks for your comment

Nice work, Rafie. You’ve definitely captured the feminine aspect. I didn’t realise the two horizontal lines were dotted, but you’ve done a great job. Keep it up!

    David Airey,
Thanks you. Initially I want to put a line, but dotted lines have some personal touch to it. Glad you like it as well. Cheers~
