Twitter smashed my life. Few weeks ago, I watched the video about talent and I strongly believe that I have done my 10 000 hours. All I need now is luck and finally it is here – I present you twitter. A miracle that enable me to keep up with the design community and most importantly acquire new projects to work on. Sometimes, I read twitter like emails when you actually don’t have to read it and count my followers where it actually doesn’t matter. But I tell you what I learned from it so far, you just take the ball and run with it.
That is what I did. I have been using it to save enormous amount of useful links and tips. I went to the twitter meet up where you actually meet the people behind their username. I have been blamed because of using magpie for testing my followers reaction and even had a haircut for free with it. And I’m still running with the ball.
Today, businesses have been using twitter and surprisingly a cat now has a twitter account, and tweet – apart from the 104 years old lady who joined the twitter adventure! So, if that is their story now it is my turn. This is how twitter has smashed my life, once and for all.
One night, I have found myself really obsessed with twitter. I didn’t really know much about twitter search but that night, I tried. I searched for “twitter wordpress help” just to see if there is much going on. I was a bit free at that time and happy to help others. So, whoever needs help, I will just send a reply message to them using @(their twitter name).
That is where it all begins…
I had a conversation with Julien Sharp of Stylo Creative regarding the problem she had while trying to integrate twitter using a WordPress plugin. I remembered that I have the same problem before so I stayed up a bit longer that night hoping that I could do something before I went to sleep. After I have identified the problem, I have suggested her to use twitter widgets meaning that it will request the twitter status straight away from the twitter server and not depending on our website server. The methodology illustrated below.
We had a skype conversation on implementing the codes. Prior to the conversation, I have shown Julien that the code supplied by twitter is working and unless twitter is down (fail whale). Everything runs smoothly and we were really happy. On similar occasion, people say that I will gain big time and I hope I will. Few days ago, I have just done with one design project and received a praise for it. I am really glad and looking forward to collaborate more with people. All because of twitter.
In this life, if you believe in what you love doing and you work hard on it because you love it, the luck will come eventually. Maybe not today or tomorrow, but one day it will. All you need is to be patient. Now I’ve put my ball down and pass it on to you. I am not stopping here but I would like you to start embracing this opportunity. Get it?
